This cold New England winter has meant a lot more time at home, and that gives us ALL time to walk around and see what needs some sprucing up. I’ve gotten lots of calls for help with bedrooms lately. There are so many beautiful options available in everything from furniture to linens, so I thought it was a good time to share some of my favorites with you. The most important part of the bedroom and where you spend 8 hours a day (okay, so maybe not always 8 hours!) is laying in bed. This should be the most important purchase you make. First and most important, go shopping and buy a good quality, comfortable mattress! After that the rest is easy!!
Bed- Go For the Cozy!
I have to say, I love an upholstered headboard. It’s comfy to sit up against, feels warm, and can be reupholstered and changed to fit your changing tastes and decor! What about a footboard? Personal preference! If you’re tall you may not want one. Also, if you want the feeling of more room around the bed, perhaps not. A canopy over the headboard is another great option if you want something a little different, but not the traditional 4 poster style.
I love a bench at the foot of the bed. It’s great to sit while dressing, or it’s a great spot to put your coverlet when the bed is turned down!
Bedding
Your bedding should be an investment in yourself. Go for super soft and luxurious. You’ll sleep better and it will be worth the money you spent. I’ve found beautiful Egyptian cotton sheets on sale and at discount stores for almost the same price as the “standard” stuff! Keep an eye on white sales and stock up!
Nightstands- Mismatched… And With Storage!
The days of the matchy-matchy nightstands is (thankfully!) gone. I love a large nightstand, and my husband prefers a smaller one. I love to have a drawer to stash things, he prefers more of a table top – the styles, sizes and shapes are endless. This is where you can add a little fun and personality to your bedroom!
Dressers & Chests
Closets have gotten larger and dressers seem to be getting a little smaller. I love a double dresser with a beautiful mirror above. A simple painted finish can go with most everything!
Seating
It’s always to nice to have a little slipper chair or, if you have the room, a luxurious chaise. Add a small table and a lamp and it becomes a reading nook or a spot to sip your morning coffee!
Bedrooms have come a long way, and they are the perfect place to create your personal haven. It’s the one space you are designing just for YOU, not for guests, so make it personal, and sleep well!!
